The DC4IDP Health Information System HIS: An information system including people, processes and resources that collect health information and then process and disseminate that information in an organization. The HIS is the primary source of information in the health sector. Its purpose is not to accumulate information but to improve decision-making. is a database of disease occurrences amongst the IDP IDP: Internally displaced persons are "persons or groups who have been forced or were forced to flee or leave their homes or places of habitual residence, by reason of or in order to avoid the effects of armed conflict , situations of generalized violence, violations of human rights or natural disasters or man, and who have not crossed an internationally recognized state. The information is then transmitted to Goma where it is compiled and tracked. Weekly compilation of this information allows the HIS team to quickly alert the relevant agencies and authorities in case any outbreaks occur. In 2009, the HIS team implemented the health information system in six pilot health centers, two in the geographic health area of Birambizo. A January 2010 workshop on the common platform for data management regarding the health emergency in North Kivu was attended by organizations of the health cluster including WHO, UNHCR, UNOPS and the Provincial Inspectorate of Health for North Kivu. And now since early April 2010 coverage has been extended to all health facilities in the Birambizo area and effort is being made to get all the health centres fully operational on the system. Birambizo was identified as a priority area but five other areas will be covered gradually. |
