Thanks to its low price and to its simplicity of use, the DC4IDP team is working intensely with the GPS (global positioning system) in the frame of the project.

The GPS, on one hand, is used to improve spatial databases of North Kivu by collecting points or tracks of villages, infrastructures, roads, etc.

On the other hand, the GIS team is using the GPS in the scope of its «  camp-mapping  » activities. Boundaries, water points, buildings of the camps are collected using this method.

This allows, after transfer of the data collected, the quick production and dissemination of maps to improve decision-making of partners.

The Dc4IDP team is also dedicated to train interested partners to the use of the GPS on the field and how to collect waypoints or tracks and to transfer the data on a computer.

This data collected on the field by the partners is then controlled and centralized by the GIS team in the DC4IDP office.
